1997 Ranger 4x4 speed sensor
1997 Ranger 4x4 speed sensor
So I was replacing the speed sensor when I ran into an issue that I couldn’t find an answer to:
the old speed sensor that broke off in the tcase was smaller than its replacement. Not far enough off to see, but the new sensor would not fit inside the tcase. I saw online where someone else had the same issue, every sensor they tried was too big.
I thought for a second, then it came to me that I could just grind a very small bit of the paint off of the sensor and it should fit, and still seal due to the o-ring. It worked, slid in with a little force.
the only issue I am having is that the odometer is not working- speedometer works flawlessly...

Good info, thanks
The worm drive for odometer was a common failure on 1995 to 2003 Rangers
Dash needs to come out to fix it
Article here on fixing that: https://www.therangerstation.com/Mag...orm_gear.shtml
It can also be the motor itself, rarely but not never, if worm gear is not broken then could be the motor
You should replace all 6 back light bulbs while dash is out
