Welcome to the forum

Manual or automatic?
It shouldn't matter, but both need to be manual or both automatic, and both 4x4s of course

2001 and 2002 Ranger 4.0ls used the same model automatic transmissions(5R55E), so should be a plug and play swap
2000 did NOT, missing 2 new sensors added in 2001 for automatics, missing 1 sensor for manuals

If its automatic, and its your first, then you MUST line up torque converter inside bell housing, seat it, or transmission won't bolt to engine and you can/will damage the transmission

Google: How to seat a torque converter

1:53 video, watch it
Applies to ALL AUTOMATICS
Spin and "click" to line up the splines and Pump drive inside trans
Failure to do this will break the pump and make trans useless so $$$$ if it goes wrong
