AC Works/Doesn't? Weird electrical problem?...

I've had 94 xlt for just over a year now and the ac hasn't worked since I got it. I haven't been too concerned because I don't mind using open windows as my air con, but it's been 95+ here for the last month and if there's an easy fix for this I'll do it.

When I run the AC the ac motor spins up for maybe 5 seconds, then turns off for 5 seconds, then turns on for 5 seconds, then turns off for... over, and over, and over again. It seems like it might be working when the pump is on but maybe only 5 degrees cooler than what's outside, which isn't doing much right now. I've hunted around and haven't really seen anybody with the same issue. Could it be as simple as a bad fuse? Bad motor? Electrical gremlin? I honestly have no idea. I'm not really looking to spend over 100 to fix it but if it's something simple I'll take care of it myself.

I just replaced the belt, so I know it's not that, just replaced the alternator and battery as well, but as far as I can tell, everything else is stock around the motor. Not a super technical person, but technical enough to replace those items.

Thoughts anybody?

The system is probably low on refrigerant.

Mine did the same thing when.....I was low on the cold stuff.

Check with a mechanic or one of your local auto-parts store to see about re-charging your system (add more refrig)
