Bigandrw's 86 SAS/ Cobra Build

Well I knew i would last very long with out another ranger, so i decided to go on a scavenger hunt.

Long story short: I was browsing on craigslist a few weeks back, and saw a guy in the north dallas area was selling an 86 extended cab 4x4 for 300 bucks. As interesting as it sounded I decided to read on. i start talking to this guy, and he says that the motor and transmission have been pulled for a project, but cant keep the project going. he asked what i was going to do with the truck, and i told him it was going to get a 351. well it just so happend that he had a fully rebuilt and dynod 351m that he was planning on throwing in it, and hed include it with the truck for another 250 bucks.

Hes already started the swap, and got the motor mounts on,and fire wall modified, got a set of black jack long tube headers modified to go on the outside of the frame rails and a bunch of other stuff i cant remember right now.

and as of today he has informed me that he has a guy localy that is selling a c6 transmission, with an np208 tcase, and a bronco 9" for 350. he said hed be more than happy to pick it all up for me if i paid him when i come to pick the truck up.

The motor does need a little cleaning, and a fresh coat of paint, but it is in great shape.

he has dyno sheets that have the motor dynod at ~520 bhp, and ~600 ftlb of tq

anyways i do have a couple pics for you guys if your interested.

I'm confused, I can't see a 351M getting anywhere near those numbers even on an engine dyno. He said it was rebuilt, must have a lot more done for those numbers.

A rebuilt 460 can put down close to 500, never heard of a 351M doing that. Unless he's lying and it's actually a 351c. The M's were never known for power.

Great find though

Its bored 60 over, larger cam, lifters etc. I don't know everything that was done to it.

But needless to say, it will be going in this truck and I will have a hell of a time with it.

Technically yes, I have already paid him for everything, I just have to drive up to pick it up in two weeks.

Thanks Adam. Yeah if everything goes according to plan, which it always seems to veer off course, it will work out. it is deffinately getting a body lift and the engine swap. and then down the road/ whenever i tear the axles in half, ill sas it

With that engine bored 60 over it's going to run hot. Not to mentioned it's weaker because it was bored so much. Most people never bore more than 50 on the M blocks

I am going to say something here and I am not trying to be a jerk but, I would question that dyno sheet as there is no way that 351m made even close to that HP/TQ numbers, maybe even not half of them numbers with that asthmatic intake on it. That intake was made to make off idle torque for trucks and not for making horsepower. To make that kind of power requires hiflowing carb, intake, heads, exhaust, and a big cam with a lot of money invested. With that being said dont you think that $250 is very cheap for that kind of engine that makes that kind of hp & tq? Like I said I am not trying to be a jerk here just telling it like I see it. I think that you found a great deal and I would be all over it to if I found it to.
