Conversion Perversion- My tranny swap
First time I have seen this project. While this is some very nice work in deed, I have to ask a very basic question - why didn't you just swap in an Explorer 5.0L/4R70W combo? Would have had an equally stout (stronger in my mind) auto trans and a TON more torque than the 4.0L could ever muster for towing. I bet it would have been cheaper overall as well.
Nothing against the project, the work is top notch as far as I can see here!
Good luck.

I didn't want to change the wiring harness. Not sure if that is needed with a 4r70w?
I can get replacement 700r4 trannies for $650 with a core exchange and there are a lot of aftermarket goodies for it. It made sense to me over the long long haul.

new pics of y-pipe and homemade TV bracket set up on page 1.
The ONLY issue driving so far- at idle it goes from 500 rpm to 1000 rpm a few times before it settles at 750 rpm. I neeed to tighten the y-pipe to exhaust manifold. I def have a leak there.
I've been up to 3rd gear. The shifting is fine. I'm down to wiring reverse lights and neutral start switch. It's gonna be a couple of weeks before I am back on the project.
