That sucks man. I got my box from FoxFab & he said that he rebuilds them, but when Jey took it apart, there weren't any o-rings in it & it was throwing fluid all over the place. It still leaks now, but I've got a new sector shaft in my room that I need to put in to see if that'll fix it. I also have some play in my steering, if that makes you feel any better.

yes and no, i mean i knew it wouldnt be perfect.
which lines go where on your truck? from the pump? i'm thinking mine might be wrong
yours turn really hard?
Hmmmm, everyone with solid axles with yota boxes or even chev's for that matter (that I know) power steering sucks...really really bad...well compared to mine.
If it's a reference, ryans truck is kinda like your explaining. You can turn the steering wheel to 3 o clock and 9 o clock before it does anything. I think he said he needs a new pump?
I would expect some play, but not what your explaining. And you should always be able to turn the wheel when stopped w/o a problem...
Does it whine really bad?
I would re-bleed it I'm guessing, maybe you already did that though...

no just about all the time. there is alot of play in the box. i hear its adjustable.
I also heard that the pre 89 box is not compatible with the ranger, yet on the other hand i heard it was.
some people say the best box is the 89-94 and others say pre 89 is better.
mine is from an 88. not new not rebuilt.
i think im going to try a newer box and see if that works.

nope no whine, its nice and quiet. yeah idk if there are any better boxes to use or what.
i think it bolts to the inside of the frame.....i know it would be harder to mount, but it is a Ranger pump and wouldn't be too hard to get your steering to work....
here is an eBay link for some pictures...

and if it was inside the frame, it would protect it more.....

I know on our trucks there is very little room inside the frame. you might look into buying a Howe or trail-gear rebuilt box.

the pre 89 boxes are the same as the post 89 boxes, they are just slightly different input and the sector shaft is larger. nothing that would make it not work on a ranger.
