Yea...that's my guess as well. Alot like how chevy has different colored keys depending on how a model is loaded. Where ford has differnet bars and the same keys, chevy has the same bars and different keys. I'm starting to vote keys. Hmm......i have a feeling somebody with an RCD should sell Keith their old stock keys...and see what happens.....

Marie....let's put stock 07 and old keys in your truck!

Keith.....do you happen to have a pic of your stock keys from your superlift install? If we can get a shot of a stock '08 key, i'll pull one of my keys out and compare the bar's hex index.

Shane this thread makes me want that lift anymore... I've decided the leveling kit just won't cut it...

Those caps have been used for years and years on rangers....since like 98ish. In '07 when they introduced two new wheels....one of them(as pictured on 07sport's truck) were painted silver, matching the wheels.

I'd like to know the height of a stock 4X4 98-07 front end, for comparisons sake.

Yes they are the same. I was wondering about the bars... It doesn't make since that they would put the softest bars in the front with the stiffest ones in the rear. I have an 05 Edge, 3.0 V6 5 speed, regular cab. I would go ahead and assume that the 3.0 is the heaviest of all of the ranger engines since the 2.3/2.5s are aluminum headed 4 cyl. engines, the 4.0's are aluminum headed and have plastic upper and lower intakes, and the 3.0s are all cast iron, except for the intakes. So is anybody sure that the Fs are indeed softer than B's, which are indeed softer than 1s? Also, how hard is it to change the bars??? Do you have to have an unloading tool? Or do you just undo the shocks and adjusting bolts? Would I see any lift switching over to a B or 1 bar verses my F bars, or will it just make my ride stiffer?

1 > B > F

Bars(spring rates) are chosen based upon options, accesories, truck weight, engine, etc. like i've never seen a reg cab with B bars. MOST xcabs 2wd's are F bars. MOST xcabs 4x4 are B's. Fx4's are 1's. Those are generalizations of course...i'm not positive on them exactly. 1 bars are harsher/firmer ride....and they keep the 'lift' by not sagging as much as a lower grade bar over time. I think GatorBlue92 upgraded his 2wd edge reg cab to #1's. We have threads on removal of torsion bars. you do not need the special tool....a big c-clamp works just fine....you can do it with the wheels still on...just front end suspended from the frame on jackstands.

It's so dang variable....cranks, saggyness, tire size, etc.

What tire size does your FX4 have?

I know the regualr XLT 4x4's for '08 came with 235/75r15's...same size as stock 07 and older 2wd edges.

I have 255/70/16 which is a 30.1" tall tire.
The XLT's come up to like 28.9" tall.

Stock (before crank) I sat around 33.25" up front. If I had 28.9" tire It would be aprox 32.65"
If I had 31's (BFG AT is 30.8) it would be ~33.6", If I had 32's (31.8) It would sit ~34.1"
All that would be if I left the bars untouched.

Now we can add 1.25" due to my crank to all those on how it would be if I had each size.
I am at 34.5" up front btw with 5 turns.

I know its variable, I just wanted to know how much lower these heights are to 07 and back owners, in real world numbers.

for what it's worth, mine stock on 245/75r16's was in the 34.5" range. I gotta dig up pics from when i first did my torsion crank like 4 years ago. lol. That's to the bottom on the flare.

Hmm i just decided to read back through this, and i am starting to think that yes it must be that the factory keys were re-indexed for 2008.

Im interested in getting a set from an 07' or older model, and seeing if i can gain anymore lift up front.

I just got a set of 265/75/16's and would like a little more height up front.

Im going to talk to the dealer and see if i can get a set, otherwise i might just order some after market keys (i wont be doing any insane cranking, i got 1.25" out of the factory keys, so if i can get another 3/4" with early model or after market keys, then ill be happy.)

woah my truck was being discussed... :-D by the way I swear those rims were rare, they were optional when I bought the truck, originally it had the other type (have to look in the brochure) so yeah I found out my ranger has F bars... are they really that bad?

All i have right now is my iPhone for pix and the quality sucks. I really want to straighten out the lift (tbars and shackles) before i post pics.

I should be able to borrow a camera in a week or so.

I can tell you this up front, after all the research and homework, im not really happy with the results.

I'd love to take marie's truck and my truck apart to compare keys....or possibly get keys from a jy and throw 'em on hers. see if that's where they did the change. Highly likely in my mind.

Most likely. Here is my truck with maxed B bars.
I really wouldn't want to crank more, I think the angles are still fine.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but im curious. Was there aver a definative answer on this? My 09 Sport sits pretty darn close to where my 04 XLT sat. Both 2wd, both had 235/75 15s. (not stock on the XLT, but it had them when it was wrecked).

I test drove several Edge's and Sports prior to buying this one and they felt like they sat higher than mine does. Id like to get it a touch higher in the front, but i dont want to crank the bars and stiffen up the ride or kill tires. If there is an OEM part that can be tossed on there that would be awesome. The truck rides better than my XLT did, and i have BBKK for the suspension code.

awesome. keep us updated. It would be nice to toss a Ford torsion key on the truck and keep it stock enough to fly under the radar

I've compared my truck to Marie's truck several times. And i've definately narrowed it down to two things...

Torsion keys.

and

Lower Control Arm(orientation of the hex hole for the torsion bar.) I think they may have clocked that a few degrees to create a lower ride height.

IF it's the torsion keys, I'd love to have her truck up to 'proper' height for a bodylifted 98-07 ranger by swapping to older model keys AND 2.5" blocks. I'd definately replace those 1.5" blocks.

Both your old trucks are 2wd...

I know the '04 was coil sprung. And I know the '09 2.3L 2wd Sports are coil sprung...

Is your '09 4.0 2wd Sport a coil sprung or torsion sprung?
