Brian, I owe you a huge appology. Somehow I had two slip through the cracks. Last night I went to grab a couple sets to ship out that sold over the weekend, and I realized I had more boxes sitting there than I should have. i have a general question for you guys that are welders. I got mine raw (not powdercoated). In all of the stuff I've read about welding, the surface to be welder has to be clean. Does this mean you would have to grind the powdercoat finish off of the areas on the brackets that are to be welded? Just curious

 

You don't actually weld on these brackets at all - They are all bolt on. But generally speaking yes, any surfaces to be welded need to be bare and clean.

For this coilover kit, you only weld the gussets to the sides of the factory coil buckets to provide additional reinforcement since they now carry the entire front end. Everything else is bolt-on.

Can these gussets be welded on prior to any lift install? As in could I drive my ranger to a shop today and get them welded then install the rest of the lift from home?

 

Yep, I don't see why not. Just make sure you leave enough clearance for the coilover spring.

In the past, guys with the old RCD coilover setup (which is what all of this is based off of) have actually installed else everything first - then went to have the gussets welded on shortly afterwards.

Just make sure it gets done before you 'push' your truck.

I am also trying to create one document (pdf) with most all general info in it. As I have not done this myself, I will need assistance, pics, etc, so I will be looking for what I can find, although any input is appreciated.

-These are as broad as the topics will get. Some will get more specific subtopics that I might not have mentioned. This will also be the proposed order of the sections in the document.

Please make any general suggestions for other topics I need to cover! I will start compiling information and pictures, if there is anything I can't find I'll ask for it.

I've gone through the first 15 pages collecting information and separating it from the general discussion/extra talk. 35 more to go, then 15 pages of coilover sadness/madness!

 

Anyone have any advice on how to drill the hole below the cv axle? its right below the short shafts didnt know if anyone had a good idea or something to get at it other than maybe use a lonnng drill bit to get it? Or maybe swing everything out of the way?

Ok here's a question.

The consensus seems to be 5.0" travel for stock and 6.5" for superlifted, but I haven't found much mention of the overall compressed/extended lengths. It looks like all fox 6.5's are 12.85/19.35 and 5.0s are 11.3/16.4

Is this the right overall lengths needed, and what is the tolerance there?

And another thing... super newb question. does "coilover" refer to a spring/shock combination? I've been reading it as meaning what I guess is just the shock... Pretty basic, I know. A coilover is a shock with a spring (or a COIL) mounted OVER the shock.

OK I got quite a bit done on my All-inclusive information pdf. it is by no means complete or to be considered fully accurate at this point. However, there is quite a bit of good information organized in a readable manner. PLEASE help me out, those of you who know what you're talking about, by reviewing this pdf and making suggestions. Let me know if I have made any errors or left out information that you think should be included.
You can obviously tell by the table of contents that I just got tired and quit after the section on shocks, so I am aware I have some sections missing.

I will also have a section for specific setups, so if you would like yours included (or excluded) please let me know, and feel free to send me any pics or information.

How long does it take for a run? 2-3 months? Put me down for a set of powder coated... I'll have the money set aside for it, guaranteed.

 

lol no problem. I just know because before my friends switched to air ride, they had coilovers and it came together as a combo.
