5.0L plans
Without the accessory belt to provide some resistance to the pulley, it can be difficult. There are aftermarket tools by KD or OTC made just for this purpose or you might be able to use an open end wrench on the nut and a strap wrench on the WP pulley. IIRC, the nut is 36mm.
Got to work on it more last night. Ill have pics up in a bit. Tore down all to the long block. My bro in law reccomended I change out the springs not only to go with the B-cam but just because since im gonna have the heads apart anyway and its such a moving component. Im pretty sure I agree. Any suggestions on what kind?
Since im cleaning everything up too, whats the best kind of parts wash? simple green of course but im cleaning all the bolts, brackets, u name it its getting cleaned, painted, chromed or whatever. I figured id get one of those big rubbermaid toy/storage bins and just put everything in there soak it and scrub it. bolts and screws are all indiviually bagged so ill just wash them in there bags.
Upate on the parts. the comany is sending out the alternator and ac compressor asap and they are going to either find the fuelrail/ injectors and harness through that yard or locate them in another. so thats a sweet deal there.

For valve springs I really like the Trick Flow upgrade kit for the GT-40 heads. It comes with the upgraded springs that will handle up to .542 overall valve lifts, new seals, retainers, and keepers. Also if your going to be running a pedastal mount rocker arm, make sure they are tightened and spaced out properly. Comp cams has a good instruction sheet on how to do this on there website. The pedastal mounts are non adjustable besides with shims, and if they are improperly set up they won't provide the needed lifter preload of .020 to .060.
Thanks Rob. Yea, my gf got me the Proform Pedestal mount 1.6's for Christmas, there acutally sittin on the counter in the kitchen. Ill look into those springs for sure.

I don't think it will change much. It doesn't have to do with just the engine, you still have the tranny, frame and axle to factor in. But I bet the tow rating of the expo with the 5.0 in it should be close.
i realized the towing thing after i posted but thatnks anyway.. yea im gonna have to switch to different coils.. sucks but no big deal. i have 650's now with 2wd n the 3.0 so im guessing the 750 or 800's maybe?
Im still running my 750 coils they are doing fine but id suggest bumping up to 800s if you were to change anthing.. my 750's are almost maxed out and ill switch those out once I feel like doing it again lol....
lol. i dunno, i think they were rating stock around 220? if im not mistaken. With the TM headers vs. the rediculous stock ones n 2 less cats n flowmaster muff, roller rockers, b cam, ported.polished heads, E3 plugs (theyve been proven to work), intake. im hopin thatl bump up to 275ish id hope
thanks man thats what i thought but confirmatinos is always a good thing
I was wondering because I found a 289 with a little over 300hp for $1500..Just needs a carb and the front assembly. I think that would be enough hp but wasn't sure what other people were getting with the 302.
You need to find out all of the specs on the engine, cam specs (lift duration, overlap), compression ratio, any head work.
When you talk 300 HP in a 289 ci engine you are talking high rpm range for the cam that means the engine could fall flat on its face on a trail or even DD.
A lot of people keep the OEM Cam in the Explorer engines because it is a good all around duration/lift package, just watch out you don't buy something that you can't use.
First, i am not sure what you intend to do with the truck and if it is 4x4 or not, so these are things to think about in general.

i do alot of highway driving mostly aroun 45-70 mph so b cam works for me
