I'm still thinking I'll be back in Minnesota before you get it son.

Maybe you can pick me up from the aeropuerto so that I can see the beast.

Oh yah I'm gonna send a few cases of Alaskan beer too, so you'll get to try some of that deliciousness.

A 99~2001 Ex into a 99~2000 Ranger is the easiest of all Ranger/Explorer 5.0L swaps. You"ll need the engine harness, starter/charging harness and the transmission harness from the 99 Explorer which are, for the most part, highly compatible with the 99 Ranger's electrical system.

For exact wiring info, I recommend that you get the Ford factory Wiring Diagrams Manuals for both vehicles. These are $60 each new from Helm, Inc. but can be bought on eBay for $10~20 each.

so then it is not plug and play, it is bolt in and splice?

I'm converting from manual to auto, so I bought a new 99 Explorer 4R70W shift cable. I don't know if the stock Ranger cable will fit but the mechanism at the steering column is the same Ranger to Explorer.

I'm not sure if it does either, I'm using the explorer cable. The stock ranger one might come up short since the trany is longer(dif. spot anyways). But there might be a way to make it work

I had to get the explorer cable when I swapped the 4R70W into my 1999. The 5R55E cable has different cable end at transmission vs 4R70W.
