I believe that the immobilizer bypass requires a fully operational PATS system to work.

When you swap from the 2001+ Ranger PCM to the 98~01 5.0L Explorer PCM, you are eliminating an essential component of PATS, the PATS Control Module. The Ranger PCM has that module's functions onboard; the Explorer PCM is wired to an external PATS module.

Without the PATS Module, the PATS system cannot communicate with the Explorer PCM in any way and the PCM must have authorization from the PATS Module before it will supply spark and fuel. AFAIK, the immobilizer bypass cannot change that.

Stupid question, Would a PCm out of a 97 Explorer work? That was the year before pats came into being and it was available with a 5.0.

That would take care of PATS but the 96~98 engine used a different Camshaft Position Sensor, MAF sensor, IAT and probably some other stuff that make swapping PCMs difficult. Besides that, I think the early 5.0L Explorers might have had the older return-type fuel systems that need an extra fuel line, a different fuel rail, pump and regulator.

All of this could be swapped but I'm sure adding the PATS Control Module and changing the transceiver and keys would be cheaper/easier.

yeah 99+ or 98+ is all returnless. before that it needs a return line.

You know I start my welding classes in August and am probably going to buy a tube bender so if you have a picture of the sliders I could probably make them.

Anyway, hope to see it done soon Andy.

Nice project, looks like it's coming alone pretty well. My supervisor at work keeps trying to tell me that I should put a 347 stroker motor in my Ranger. It'd be fun, but I'd have to have some $$ fall out of the sky for that to happen.
