it should screw into the frame... or whatever, because the a-pillar itself is pretty flimsy.

^ well i had mine just screwed into the Pillar with no problems. just dont strip the screws and it makes a tight hold. I used to pull my mag out of it all the time and it never pulled out or looked flimsy.

but if you want just use some longer self-taping screws to reach the cab metal and you'll be super safe

I will probably just use the self tapping screws just to be safe

or you could pull the a-pillar off to get behind it and just use small bolts with nuts that way you are sure that it won't pullout

Thats a good idea as well lone ranger. I will take a look and see what is behind the A-pillar and do what is best.

likewise. I pull mine out a few times a week and it's still as stiff as it was the first day I put it in.

I actually put mine in to window area of my extended cab, right behind me, all I have to do it reach between the seat and grab it, plus its out of view and the plastic is more sturdy back there..... Just a thought......

My is right in the center. Between the lower cupholder thing and the center console (there's a couple inches of carpet there). The mounts aren't super solid as when I put the screws I don't think they got into the floor real well, but the Mag don't move and I've yet to pull the mounts off. So it works for me.

Mine is above the extended cab passanger window. its a good mounting point and a good place to grab it easily.

someone, maybe ScottG, installed a grab bar on an a pillar that didn't have one. he was able to buy the metal mounting plate that rivets to the metal. The spacing is not quite "perfect" for the mag clips. The self tapping screws sounds like the better rout for mag clips.

I was thinking of putting is behind me. I might want to get guages in the future so I will leave the A-pillar alone for now.

I got the Mag Lite mod. I am pretty pleased with it so far. The only thing I need to do is get longer screws. The ones I used sucked the plastic in and made a bulge by the window.

Finally got my MagLite mounts. Couldn't find them locally so I had to buy them on line.

Anyway, I mounted mine between the driver seat and the driver door on the floor. Out of the way and won't slide around.

Are those mounts made for a maglight or are they just like a pipe clamp that I could buy at he hardware store?

Yes, they are made for the full size Mag-Lites and are sold by Mag-Lite. You could probably adapt something else but the Mag-Lite brackets are exactly the right size and they are plastic so they don't scratch the anodized finish like steel would.
