Thermo Tec is $53 for a 5 ft x 3 ft roll, needed 2 for my standard cab.
Carpet from Stock Interiors is $124 for basic carpet. But I opted for a ultra plush material which added $68, and a mass backing which added $50, total $241. Backing is a thick vinyl/rubber backing which adds sound/noise deadening.
Fairly easy to install, you just have to take your time...don't rush. Only tools needed were a socket to remove seats and phillips screwdriver, and an interior trim tool to remove plastic rivets holding interior panels on.
Plenty of info and video on their web site to show how to install.
Have used Stock Interior before...top quality stuff, made in USA.
That looks incredible. I was nosing at the plush carpet kit. I forget what website it was. I have the standard carpet now and it's in pretty good shape. I want to take it out to finish the sound deadening and was thinking of upgrading the carpet.
As I told my brother, "I'd like to turn my Ford into a Lincoln..."
That carpeting does look good. The carpet on mine is tan and is dirty. I ended up buying new black carpet for my truck. I like the look of black versus the tan. I haven't installed it yet, since shortly after it arrived, someone ended up rear ending me and the truck is in the body shop. Another reason for the new carpet, instead of just getting the old cleaned is that I removed the rear jumper seats and the old carpet was notched out for them. The new carpet has to be notched, but since I have no reason to notch, I'm not going to. Hopefully next week I can tackle the carpet.
Put my traffic gear in and blue lights on it with a storm coming in today. Plus drove into town to pick up my daughter from work.
As a follow-up on that, I actually did have to respond to a traffic incident in Ranger Rick. He did just fine, got me there and idled without issue while we kept the road closed. His first time as a response vehicle. Good boy, Rick.
As an update to my carpet install....
It is a night and day difference as to the sound deadening from before with just the OE vinyl flooring and the Stock Interior carpet I installed. I opted for their Xtra Plush style with a Mass Backing upgrade.
Be forwarned...the mass backing is a very stiff 40 mil vinyl backing. If you opt for this, I would recommend you install during summer hot days. When I got it a month ago, I laid it out inside my house for 2 days, and then the day I installed it in my garage, I heated the garage up to 60 degrees (winter temp was around 30 outside.
Carpet was still very stiff. Doing it on a warm day will help a lot. Carpet itself is top quality.
I love this truck. The trans is wonky, reverse works occasionally and the brand new brakes won’t hold a bleed, but I learn something new every time i work on it. We’ll get it right. Costco parking lot was great to add 265/75/16 on 7” wide rim.
Now that steel belts aren’t meeting pavement, I’ll address the next problem (somehow) snd probably throw good money after bad on this 22 year old.
serms my spare 235/65/15 is dead
Costco parking lot - I felt helpful The née tires are 1” wider all around but look more like 2”
Ordered a Melling high volume pump for mine. And have an aluminum radiator and failsafe thermostat sitting in my Amazon cart to order today once I figure out which slim electric fan to order.
I ended up replacing the carpet in my 03, over the weekend. The original was tan and was badly stained. I decided to go with black. Since I had removed the rear jumper seats, I also wanted the carpet to go all the way to the back wall. For the most part it turned out good. I over cut on one little 2 inch section, but its not too noticeable. Can't even see it in the pictures. I also had removed the original back plastic piece that goes under the rear window. It had the notch out for where the jack went. I ended up building something out of wood and carpeted it. Then I attached the two net things.
Now the next big thing for the interior is to redo the headliner.
Today, I bought an Accel SuperTuner for my 99 xcab 4L 4x4! I’m excited to plug it in tomorrow and start tuning. I plan on correcting the tire size ( 20” XD Rockstars wrapped in 33” terra grapplers), firming up the shift points, and squeezing some extra MPGs out.
So I registered it and plugged it in to my 1999 ex-cab 4L OHV 4x4. There were 3 available tunes: towing, fuel economy, and “87 octane”. I was a bit disappointed to see that there wasn’t a separate performance tune that is available for other makes/models. So far, from what I’ve read the “87 octane” is a performance tune. I installed the fuel economy tune and adjusted the shift pressure by 3 psi. It allows you to adjust it by up to 10 psi. Under normal acceleration I hardly notice a difference in shift firmness, however under hard acceleration I do notice that the shifts are a bit firmer. I’m going to run the fuel economy tune and monitor it with my wifi OBD adapter and Fusion app. I’ll report back after I’ve run a couple full tanks. I’m just getting started with it, but so far it’s been fun. Whether or not it was worth the $280, the jury is still out.
UPDATE* I installed the “87 Octane” tune and took the truck out for a spin. I don’t have any numbers for you, but I can say w/o a doubt that I picked up some power. The roads here are wet due to rain so the tires just spin off the line, but where I noticed the biggest gains was in the mid to upper RPM range. It had surprising passing power. When I stabbed the skinny pedal, it got up and went! It had nearly instant throttle response where as before there was a noticeable delay. When things dry up here I’ll get some numbers for 0-60mph, 1/8 & 1/4 mile on the stock tune and then on the “87 Octane” tune.
So far, I’m having a lot of fun w/ it and look for any excuse to get out and drive!
Right rear brake started making a banging noise when lightly touched at slow speeds(grabbing rotor and then slipping). Removed brakes to find pads and rotor were COMPLETELY caked with grease/oil substance. Possible leaking axle fluid? Possibly jiffy lube sprayed the crap out of the parking brake assembly with grease and it dripped onto the pads. Last owner loved jiffy lube, ugh.
pulled a back muscle removing the lugs, damn near 200 ft lbs on each one!
replaced brakes, reassembled wheel, test drove...parking brake made a loud pop upon first use.
disassembled wheel, ran out of daylight trying to reassemble parking cable to the brake shoes. What a day.
washed her yesterday so at least she looks good while she sits in the yard 3 legged tonight
200ft/lbs? Geez! Sounds like a 17 yo was in charge of the impact wrench the last time the previous owner had in JiffyLube! Hopefully you get it sorted soon! Good luck!

it was insane, ended up using my Jack handle for a breaker bar...after hearing and feeling a ripping sound in my mid back😖 lesson learned
you got a link for your tuner? Sounds fun, maybe I should save up
That looks great! I never used to be a fan in the impetuousness of my youth. However that all changed after I got my most recent Ranger (dubbed “Tarzan” by my fiancé to go w/ her Focus-“Jane”). It’s a 99 and the chip protector is probably as old as the truck. It’s looking a little faded/oxidized. I wonder if one could restore the hood protector the same way you do foggy headlight lenses? Anyone ever tried it?
I’ve not tried a shield but I’ve been having a lot of luck renewing stuff with 2000 grit paper and then rubbing compound. I’ve been thinking of polishing stuff that isn’t typically polished, like door pulls and painted bumpers. Step up to 2000 grit via 400-800-1500-and cross cross, not like wood.
replaced the headlight bulbs, and jury rigged a hood bumper stop cushion on the drivers side...thought the hood was looking a little off, and discovered the stop cushion had fallen apart.
