i like being able to knock out like 2+ weeks of procrastination in a few hours of staying up late, i'm such a night owl.

i have everything ready to go, and i was super nervous to turn the key and fire it up.

and guess what!

nothing happened....

the ABS light Passenger Airbag light and the BRAKE (ebrake?) light turn on and turn off when i try to start it.

i'm not really sure what that means at all, but tomorrow i'm going to call henson perform, and double check that the pats got disabled on my tunes, ( i tried both) otherwise i can hear a very faint clicking from the starter, so if its not the PATS i'm going to take the starter off and have it checked, it was a junkyard one so who knows if its good or not. otherwise i'm not really sure what to start checking on next.

filled it up with coolant and PS fluid, no leaks :) oil level didn't change in a week of sitting so thats good.

Also: thank god for the internet, can't tell you how many times i looked at 5.0 pictures to double check all the lines on the truck, and to figure out what lines were from the ranger and that i needed the expo lines. haha

If you hear anything from the starter, then pats has to be off and its just a bad starter hopefully. If its pats mark had problems with his tune I think also

i think theres a very faint sound coming from it, but i can't really tell.

i emailed the guy and hes going to double check my tune files to make sure its disabled, it MIGHT not be because we talked on the phone like 3+ times about it, but when i put the details about my truck for the tuner, i failed to mention, and he could of forgotten to add it. so hopefully thats it, but i'm not sure why the BRAKE light would be coming on when i try to start it, along with the ABS and AIRBAG lights.

Those normally turn on then off when the motor is on for sec. So that it should be normal to see that when the key is turned to on

he didn't have the pats off, thats why i could still read that code about the pats.

he redid the tune today and emailed me.

now its def off, no codes for it. but it still does the same thing.

and andy, i know that, i leave it on "ON" for a second and few go away, other than the battery and CE light and Thief.

when i try to start it, the BRAKE light ABS and Airbag lights turn on, and turn off when i turn the key back to "ON"

Comfirmed no sound @ the starter, and theres a clicking like a relay from the Passenger Footwell.

any ideas?

after a weekend away, and lots of work/photo crap this week.

i jumped it with a screwdriver.

and....

it runs! idles a little high but i can change that on the tuner.

i just need to figure out why i can't start it with the key... ideas?

kinda loud for the exhaust being cut right before the second cat, thought i'd be able to drive across town(small town) to the exhaust place to have them weld up a pipe but its kinda to loud. haha

edit: and i took a video of it, but you can hardly hear it so its not worth uploading and posting.

Does your Ranger (’99) have something like PATS with the Key, I know my Wife’s ’99 doesn’t but if there is a Theft System of some kind maybe it is stopping the truck from starting, not getting some kind of signal ? (I’m just guessing here !)

yeah, i have a tuner with a custom tune to disable pats, he didn't get the tune right the first time, but he double checked and resent the tunes so it should be good to go.

4 weeks later,

guess what. haven't done much to it. with work and being busy + a lot of procrastination.

i've just been DD my motorcycle. rain, cold, windy you name it.

latest update, i filled with tranny fluid, got about 8 quarts in, and started leaking out hardcore. i know the pan was drained so the gasket on it has to be really bad. otherwise it wouldn't be poring out so bad.

key still didn't start it, after the deal with pats and crap

so i was going to wire it up to a push button start that only worked with the key in the on position.(should work right?) still doesn't start it up, but it does when you jump the starter with a screw driver. so i gotta get the started checked out but i've been lazy.

i started to wear a managers shirt now at work and i mostly work 4-10ish pm everyday week day and most saturdays as well , and i'm so lazy in the morning. damn someone come make me coffee.

Kinda update, truck is at the shop now since we have snow and its ****ty laying in the driveway, he gave me a call this morning saying the tranny is fixed and they got a starter button or something figured out, its an offroad shop that has made many buggies so i'm guessing its a push button on the dash.

i forgot to mention the exhaust but they are gonna fix something up for that, so hopefully i might have it back this week.

not important update.

drove past the place, truck was parked outside, so it must be done since they wouldn't push or tow it to park it where it was, just waiting on a call to go get it now.

my truck looks tiny compaired to the 2x rangers there that are sitting on like 42'' tractor tires and a monster truck they have. ha

its in the writeup, its just swapping some tach wires around on the back of the cluster

using a 1999 Ranger EVTM for reference

1, Get your dash apart and disconnect the cluster
2, If you have a EVTM turn to the Instrument cluster section.
3, Locate Pin 8 on wire connector C216 (Black/Yellow Wire)
4, Use a very small flathead screwdriver to release the pin from the connector housing
5, Find Connector C214 (largest of the 3 for cluster)
6, Install the wire removed from C216 into slot 16 on C214. This slot is currently vacant.
7, Put everything back together and fire it up. You're done!!

btw which shop is it at?

Update, got my truck back today, it starts and drives! woo!

but it shakes pretty bad once going 10-15 mph's

the shop drove it and said its probably the driveshaft since it was cut and welded and its probably not balanced or centered.

and its not charging completely its only at about 12.5 v while idling and 13 while 2k rpm

i let it sit for a few hours while at work and came home and started it.

it was right about 14v when cold idle so the rpms were a little higher, i drove it around for a few minutes and checked volts again, and its back down

its okay while running, gauge drops when i turn my lights on, and drops even more when i turn my heater fan on.

any ideas?

it rained all day and now the roads are icy, but i opened it up a little more and its got some power to turn the 33's with 3.73 ha.

Ha sorry no video right now.

drove my truck downtown with a spare battery and cables incase i had to jump it.

got the alt tested, completely dead.

they have a rebuilt one on the shelf so i walked home and they are gonna do it today.

its 20 degrees and windy as ****, snowing and windchill is like 5*

and 2 blocks from my house i realize i left my keys with my truck with my housekey, so i had to walk over to parents work and get their keys.

good thing i was wearing boots and a nice jacket.

once i get it back it should be good for driving to work and back, just gotta get the driveshaft thing figured out. it wasn't really noticeable with snowy roads, tires are pretty bumpy because they are big MT's and they are froze. ha

no comments but oh well. got the new alt theres a few things i want to replace yet, but i gotta get the driveshafts checked out and the joints otherwise its fine for driving to work, just don't trust it for longer trips yet.

as for plans on it. for the exterior.

1'' Body lift
Front Skid
Front Hitch
Custom Rear Bumper
Black Side Steps
Put my Expo Leafs on
Crank the front up a little more
bedliner the bumpers/grill/side mirrors (i already did, but it wasn't UV protected, so it faded already)

Otherwise sometime in the future i hope.

Manual Tcase
8.8 Axle with L/S or locker
Tint on the Topper

Go get a roll of tint from Walmart and tint the cap yourself.
