thanks guys, kinda got bored after eating so i went and made 2 doors with hinges on them, they will also be covered up in carpet just to make it look a lot cleaner.

and yes the left peice is angled a bit, because one of the bottom boards is twisted a bit, after time it will flatten out, plus with a mattress pad on there you won't notice it anyways.

this next coming weekend if i get the carpet on we will be testing it out @ my sisters place, they are having a big campout on there yard, so there will tents everywhere and campers.

Ah gotcha! Didn't even catch that lip there. Looks good! Hopefully I will be coping this in the next year.

I like the box... Is it secured to the bed somehow or can you slide it out pretty easy?

thanks, i got a BA idea for my roof rack, but i'ma have to wait till i figure out some other details yet.

maybe this coming weekend i'ma get my front hitch installed, i'm going to go with a winch that fits into a hitch receiver, because then depending how i get stuck(ha) i can go forward or go backwards if needed.

what type of pin do i need if the winch is on it? will any pin work or do i need a higher strength one or something?

doesn't TRE make shackle receivers that are pretty strong? maybe he will chime in but i haven't seen him around lately.

Ha sully you have stepside right? for some reason i was thinking you had a normal bed and i was like its not gonna fit.

i got my carpet all done, changed my mind on the doors and made 1 large door to cover it all, makes it look a lot cleaner for sure. might take some final tweaks but its good for this coming weekend.

went to walmart and got a mattress pad, 4 inch with memory foam, its pretty comfy will be better than an air mattress in a tent for sure.

also picked up a few odds and ends for camping/explorering ha.

2 - 5 gal gas cans.
1 - 7 gal water can
a pot/pan set for cooking, its like an 8 peice set, pretty small and can be packed tight together.

i have: a small propane grill, a smaller burner thing that screws onto the tiny propane tank for heating water/whatever.
bunch of other misc stuff, but i don't want to purchase everything all at once, get by with the little stuff, and slowly add onto things that i really need.

If you need any ideas of things to buy for camping look at Travis' thread. (safaripacific) He has just about everything you could ever need.

Looks real good though. Where did you get the carpet from? Good price?

The carpet is Cabella's premium marine stuff, so pretty much middle grade, its actually pretty soft, pretty fair on price, cheaper than anything locally for sure.

Trimmed up the mattress and its looking good, gf brought a black fitted sheet to go on top of the white one.

basically all ready to go, finish up packing some food/clothes and where off for the weekend.

i'll update next week sometime, theres a bunch of fine tuning i have to do yet, but i'm liking the setup already.

Well this is basically what the rack will look like. just not white, black isn't showing up. only thing i'll have to do is cut out a section in the middle to make it the width i need it. plus i'm going to add mesh on the bottom and might need a support bar or 2 across as well.

now for camping out the backside, i thought about having 1x1 square tubing that fits under the rack, on sliders, so when we are camping, i can slide those out, and rig up a tarp for a canopy so we can open the topper while its raining and stay dry while cooking or whatever.

What if you just get a ladder rack that construction workers use? That would probably be cheaper and look good as well.

Looks good… the bed is a little sort for a 6+ footer but you can curl up with the lady.
The Rack… supporting it is the question ?
Do you plan on just bolting it to the sides of the fiberglass shell or extend something to the truck bed sides; either inside or out.

My concern is work hardening of the fiberglass and then failure and the rack is sitting on the top of the shell.
Thinking and asking.

Looking good, great idea.

the rack is actually on a f150 here in my town, guy bought the truck with it and has never used it so i'm getting it pretty cheap already.

i know some won't like it, but for extra storage it will be great.

yeah we spent a few nights in it already, can't stretch out fully but its not bad.

i'm not sure how its going to be on the truck yet or not, right now its just mounted to the topper on the sides like i drew out, which i think that would be fine because its not like i'm putting hundreds of pounds up there, but i do plan on extra tire, gas, firewood, misc stuff.

i might end up making a bar that goes down the side and mounts to the bed rails but i'm not 100% sure at the moment

Well got the rack yesterday pretty lightweight for steel.

just layed it on there, i'ma narrow it and maybe cut a foot off the length.

for mounting i'm going to just run a bar down the side next to the topper and mount it onto the bed rails.

also picked up a front hitch and got that cut down to size, now i just need a welder. and i've asked a ton of people around here and no one has one, and the guy that does, doesn't have a 220v hookup at his house haha.

yeah i really like how trucks with ladder racks look.

i went and cut off the mounts so now its just the rack.

i've been helping my dad lay some new blocks for our patio so not much room to work in the garage right now.

plus i can't really figure out how far i want it to go over the cab.

there isn't going to be much weight in the front but i don't want it to look really long( like it is now) or way to short.

if I wasnt so damn busy and our hours didnt clash so much I would weld it in a sec. if you wanted to bring it up to my house on a weekend like this coming one. we could get it cut and new mounts made pretty quick I would think

yeah i look around on a bunch of expo and overland sites. plenty of ideas just not enough money and time! lol

Andy i'll send ya a text bout welding.

Today i went and extended my breather lines for the axles, the front is uber hard to reach by the way, spend like 10 minutes just trying to get the line onto the nipple lol.
