Negatory... that's how this whole thread started... they dropped the 4x4 height so it's the same as the 2wd height... Observe my fav. comparison... stock 2008 4x4 in orange... stock 2007 2wd in blue...

Ah^^^ nice comparison pic

i think the 32.25" and 33.5" measurements are with 15" wheels
and the 33.25 and 34.5 must be with the 16" wheels

anyway Dallis! do you have this done yet or what! lol i was hoping to see pics of the outcome already!

Tire sizes for 2008 4x4(I assume 2wd torsion bar may be the same)

Stock 15" tire = 235/75R15(28.9")
Stock 16" tire = 255/70R16(30.1")

Did some research....figured I'd post it since it was talked about.

^^OHHHH yeahhhh.....Mazda's have 2" blocks. Could be just 2wd torsion bar trucks, but i'm unsure. Some Rangers have 2" blocks...I believe it's the 2wd torsion bar Rangers that have 2" blocks. Guess I shoulda said that. lol.

no.....keys are the same. blocks changed for 2wd and 4x4 models if I remember correctly. All talking 07 and older torsion bar trucks.

You guys always say that buying lift keys is stupid and a waste since it's the exact same thing as cranking the bars, and everyone always says not to decrank the bars to lower the truck some. Yet these newer trucks are coming with keys that don't give as much lift? I'm guessing we can now confirm that it is safe to decrank the bars a little bit lol.

A little bit, sure. BUT....these '08's have CLOCKED keys. The keyways for the bar on the key are clocked a few degrees. Pretty much from the factory, they have 'lowering' keys. I believe If anyone wants to lower their '07 and older torsion bar truck, Swap keys with an '08. You'd lower the truck about 1.5-1.75" inches...of course get an alignment afterward and I'd say youd be safe to roll w/o any joint issues.

But wouldn't decranking them do the exact same thing? Either way isn't the end result going to be the exact same, the torsion bar being less preloaded? Since afterall you loosening the bolt is doing exactly what the different key does, changes the angle of the hexagon shaped hole that the end of the bar fits in. Not trying to start an argument or anything, just curious.

In the end...yes. BUT...for example, this thread is figuring out why 08+ are are so low. So we wanna lift. If these '08+ guys install 07 older keys, they can lift and be 'normal' like all other older trucks....sure, i think they can get the same height by cranking...but...maxed 08 truck could be same height as a semi-cranked 07. It's having the flexability of being able to get it to proper height before Ford screwed them...without maxing the bars out.

YES....you can consider it similar to those lifting torsion keys...sure....but....this, it's stock for stock, no ball joint bindage as the knuckles didn't change, the lower arms didn't change, it's just a simple torsion key change and most likely a upper arm cam change....alignment is suggested for this mod. I have a feeling nobody wouldbe saying this mod would be putting huge strain on CV shafts and ball joints like those aftermarket lift keys do. And you are able to keep proper preload on the bars...ride would bethe same if say a 03 2wd edge wanted to lowerit, and used 08 keys. Should ride just like factory. Same goes for lifting. You know how when youcrank your bars for lift, it gets firmer? and softer if lowering?

Basicially...i'm typing a bunch of jibberish and all i wanna say is: it allows flexability to gain or lose ride height(given the particualar set of keys being used). If ford did it from the factory, and those lower arms didn't change the ball joint angle, it's good to go.

fingers tired. blahblah. i'm not making sense am i? lol.
