My 5.0L swap attempt :)

Downey... were you talking to me??? I wouldn't suggest putting that engine (see pics on page 10) into anything fuel injected... I doubt it would run right, even with countless hours of computer tuning. That engine has been done for over a year, and is in my Mustang. Its just a lil ole 302 "wink wink." Lol, those are E7 heads that I spray painted silver so they look like aluminum. EVERYTHING i just told you about the engine was a lie by the way.
The engine in my truck is a stock exploder engine with a 1" intake spacer. I am happy to report a 1 MPG increase in fuel economy with the spacer installed. Someday I will probably swap the rockers out AGAIN, but get new ones this time since the others were junk. I may also pony up for the torque monsters and an EE intake someday as well. But we will see. I don't really care if it makes a tone of power, I just want torque for daily driving. Besides, with more HP, the front axle would never survive. I have done an excellent job with it so far though.
When we start swapping my buddies 97 over to the 5.0, I will start a build thread (or let him create an account on here and start it himself) so that you can see what goes into swapping over the 95-97 trucks.

MusdSlanger,
OK on the "no mods" for now, I only added header to my '88/5.0L setup; the stang motor was low mileage and ran well, WFWI...
I just didn't want you to get into the Head-Stud thing without thinking it through, then I got carried away, AGAIN !
Is the Heater Box still a problem with the 98+ Rangers ?
The truck itself is look'n good.

I didn't do my swap... I bought the truck from a used car lot with it already done lol. Good thing about it was that I got it for probably less than half of what the PO had in it. The bad part is that I can't help you with a build thread... right now.
Like I said, when I do my buddies truck, I'll be sure to do a write up for you guys.

Hey mudslanger... just thought about something and thought I would bring this up... Your engine has the external EGR with a DPFE sensor. The mid 97 and down engines used internal EGR with an EGR position sensor. As far as an intake spacer goes... it would still work, but you will need to have the EGR tube extended an inch so that it will reach the Valve when it is raised with the intake. When it comes to bolt on performance parts, Im really glad mine is a pre 97! It uses basically all the same parts as the Mustangs (such as the EGR system is exactly the same). However, this is basically the only difference besides the heads (GT40 pre mid-97, GT40P post mid-97), and the exhaust manifold types (96-mid 98 were tubular stainless, 98 and up were cast iron). My engine is a late 98, with a 96 upper intake and wring harness, so I got basically the best as far as stock parts go.
By the way Downey, The 351 is roughly an inch wider and an inch taller than a 302. Not worth the extra hassle in my opinion. Heater box is already too big in the 97 and older rangers, you either have to have a body lift or install an explorer heater box. So... I would stick with a 302 based engine. However, you can go as big as a 363 with an 8.2" deck height (302 Based) block. Just depends on how much money you want to spend.
